What do I do if my ring falls out or my patch falls off?

If it’s been less than 48 hours since the patch fell off or the ring fell out, just re-apply or re-insert as soon as possible. You’ll still be protected from pregnancy.

  • The patch: you can re-apply the same patch. If it’s lost its adhesiveness, you can apply a new patch. Your next patch change day will stay the same.
  • The ring: wash your hands, rinse the ring in cold water, and re-insert.

If the patch has been off your body or if the ring has been outside of your vagina for more than 48 hours, or you don’t know how long it’s been:

  • The patch: apply a new patch, and record this day as your new patch change day. You’ll start a new four week cycle. The patch will take 7 days to be effective against pregnancy again, so be sure to use backup contraception (like condoms) for the next 7 days.
  • The ring: wash your hands, rinse the ring in cold water, and re-insert. The ring will take 7 days to be effective against pregnancy again, so be sure to use backup contraception (like condoms) for the next 7 days.
